The problems faced by disabled persons in Nabarangpur & Cuttack district of Orissa are many and multifaceted in nature. The disabled persons are considered as a burden and unproductive. In Nabarangpur district nearly 2.5% of the total populations are disabled. The disability in the area is mostly caused by malnutrition and lack of pre and postnatal care. As the district is one of the most backward districts of the country dominated by tribal population lack of awareness and education are found to be the significant factors contributing to the disability trend in the district. AAKASH to initiate community based rehabilitation programme in the district for the people with disability organized consultations and a survey of disable persons in Tentulikhunti block of Nabarangpur district and found 54 disabled are in need of special services under rehabilitation programme soon after the survey AAKASH organized a Panchyata level awareness programme and meeting of disabled person to identify the actual need and problems they face.
